What Is Timber Repairs?
Timber repair addresses the damage that occurs to exterior and interior timber elements over time — particularly in Queensland's humid, UV-intense climate where exposed timber weathers, cracks, and is susceptible to moisture-related rot and borer damage. Common timber repair needs include rotted or damaged weatherboards on older Queensland homes, damaged deck boards, split or rotted fascia boards and eaves, window frame deterioration, rot in structural posts and bearers on low-set homes, and general carpentry damage from storms or accidents. Skilled timber repairs can restore damaged elements at significantly lower cost than full replacement — using appropriate timber fillers, replacement sections, and sealing techniques that extend the repaired element's life and restore its function and appearance.
Our Timber Repairs Process
- Damage Assessment
We probe and assess all timber identified for repair to determine the extent of rot, structural integrity, and whether the repair approach is appropriate or whether replacement is the better option.
- Rot Treatment
Affected timber is treated with appropriate fungicide or wood hardener before repair begins, stabilising any remaining soft timber and killing active rot organisms.
- Repair or Splice
For localised damage, timber filler, epoxy repair compounds, or splice sections of matching timber are used to restore the profile and structural integrity of the member. For more extensive damage, the affected section is cut out and replaced.
- Fastener Check and Securing
All fixings in the repaired area are checked — rusted nails and screws are replaced with appropriate stainless or hot-dip galvanised fasteners to prevent future rust staining and failure.
- Priming and Preparation for Painting
Repaired areas are primed with appropriate timber primer, surfaces are sanded smooth, and any gaps or fine cracks are caulked before paint or stain is applied to seal the repair.
